Hungary Striker Barnabas Varga Stable in Hospital

Mid-Air Clash With Scotland Goalkeeper

Stuttgart, Germany - June 23, 2024

Barnabas Varga, the Hungary striker, is in stable condition in a hospital after being carried off on a stretcher following a mid-air clash with Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall during a Euro 2024 group match on Saturday.

Varga, 27, was contesting a header with Marshall in the 35th minute when the two players collided. Varga fell heavily to the ground and was immediately attended to by medical staff.

He was taken off on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, where he underwent tests. The Hungarian Football Federation said in a statement that Varga had suffered a fractured cheekbone and concussion.

Varga is expected to miss the rest of the tournament. Hungary's next match is against Germany on Tuesday.

The incident cast a shadow over what was a thrilling match. Scotland won 3-2 to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.
